About Us

Don't worry if you have never done karate before, you do not need any expensive or specialist equipment, and you do not need to have a high level of fitness, that will develop over time. To start with all you need is a loose fitting top and tracksuit bottoms, you can purchase a karate suit (Gi) at a later date if you decide to continue.

We have several classes each week to suit all levels of ability. Our members include both adults and children (minimum age 6) and we have several family groups that train together in our sessions.

Our sessions cover the basic karate techniques (Kihon), set patterns (Kata) and sparring (Kumite). However our sessions are tailored to suit the needs of our members whether this is to introduce new techniques to beginners, prepare for gradings and competitions, or to work on a specific technique or drill to enhance an individual's skill.

Try it for Free!

Your first session is free. This gives you the opportunity to try karate and see if it is something you would like to take up as a new hobby to improve your fitness, learn self-defence or make new friends.

Due to Covid restrictions we are unable to access our venue at present and therefore our sessions are cancelled until restrictions are eased.

We train at:

Seaham Leisure Centre on Fridays from 5:30-6:30

Seaham Leisure Centre on Sundays from 6:00-7:00 for Brown and Black belts only

Our training fees are only £3 per session and you only pay for the sessions you take part in.

HDKI Licence

At some point you will be required to become a member of the HDKI by purchasing a Licence. The licence is needed to progress through the grades and it allows you to take part in HDKI courses and competitions. More information regarding the licence can be found on the HDKI GB website

A HDKI licence costs approximately £25 depending upon age and must be renewed annually

A grading is an examination conducted by a qualified HDKI grading examiner. Students are asked to perform techniques relevant to their grade and success at the grading allows the student to progress to the next coloured belt. Gradings are not compulsory, only those students who have shown the skills required, and feel confident enough to pass are entered into the grading.

We hold grading three times per year, the cost of a grading is £20

Our instructors are experienced karateka with full enhanced DBS checks. Click here to find out more.
